Like most students across the country, I'm feeling the pressure of exams at the moment so posts have a been a little scarce. I'm sure I'll get back into the flow as soon as this has all finished.
An interesting post today. The Post Office have launched a limited edition book of 10 First Class stamps with iconic album covers on. This is the first time ever in history somebody alive (apart from the Queen) has been shown on a stamp and so are a set of iconic stamps themselves. I think the choice of albums is very interesting, some I knew, some I don't, but also they've managed to pick from a range of eras, not just focusing on the 70's and 80's where album art was probably more prominent than todays slightly more self indulgent covers mostly plastered with pictures of the artist themselves. As a music and design lover, these instantly appealed to me, and feeling a bit geeky I went and bought a set to keep; it's little beauties like this which introduce the general public to good design and to classic designs in pop culture rather than the appreciation of good design being kept between designers.
Buy a presentation pack of these stamps at your Post Office for £4.40
The stamps in a presentation pack:
From left to right; The Division Bell, Pink Floyd; A Rush Of Blood To The Head, Coldplay; Parklife, Blur; Power Corruption and Lies, New Order; A Basket of Roses, Henri Fantin-Latour; Let It Bleed, The Rolling Stones; London Calling, The Clash; Tubular Bells, Mike Oldfield; Led Zeppelin IV, Led Zeppelin; Screamadelica, Primal Scream; The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, David Bowie.
