Sorry for not blogging in a while. I have been hectic sorting out the first issue of the student newspaper over the past 2 weeks while also trying to get a fair bit of dissertation reading done! See an update on my projects and work at www.katiesz.co.uk.
Over the past few weeks I've noticed a new trend emerging - the use of a handmade feel. This has significantly been in typography with hand written copy rather than typed but also the use of small illustrations and a collage feel has been noticable. I believe this is to try and give customers a sense of a 'personal touch' to your product or something natural and untampered with - simple, untouched and trying to give the impression it isn't mass produced. A couple of examples I have seen over the past weeks I've put below, but I'm sure the more you look, the more you'll find.
- The Autumn Handbook for Jack Wills where a collage feel has been created by layering textures and writing. This is quite different from their past catalogues which are usually clean and uncluttered. On the demin pull out you can even see usual serif fonts that have been traced by hand to give the clean look of a designed typeface with a handmade edge.
- The Marks and Spencer bottled water where a handdrawn font is used to give an authentic natural feel - trying to reflect the product inside. (image coming soon - need to go to M&S)
